You Gotta Start Somewhere with Kevin DiDomenico

We all run into brick walls at some point. Whether you are struggling with a situation, a task, a list, a goal or just life in general... even if you are trying to figure out what you want to be when you grow up this workshop is for you. You Gotta Start Somewhere. Why can getting started be the hardest part of our journey? Some of us can get so bogged down, distracted and overwhelmed that we procrastinate or avoid only to accomplish very little. Others may focus and work hard to accomplish quite a bit comparatively but still feel like failures. Know you are not alone! Join Kevin for an interactive discussion about Big Muddy, The Walk, The Switch, and Creating Your New Normal.   This workshop will conclude with a practice friendly to all levels to help us on the new path we have started.

About Kevin:

Kevin came to his mat in 2010 as a way to supplement his personal fitness regimen. What initially began as a physical practice has transformed into a much more meaningful part of his life.  He completed his RYT-200 certification at GoYoga (Dublin, OH) in 2015 and completed a 40-hour power yoga teacher training immersion with Bryan Kest in September 2017. Kevin views leading practice as a way to share the many positive aspects of yoga on and off the mat.  He appreciates yoga offers a respite from the competition and complexities of life and that everyone has to start somewhere both on and off the mat. His heated power vinyasa classes are thought provoking, physically challenging yet inclusive, and offer an expanded core sequence. Kevin has also attended workshops with Rolf Gates, Patrick Beach and Sage Roundtree.

All Things Sun Salutations with Kara Price

If you frequent a Vinyasa, Power, or any form of “Flow” class, chances are you are all-too familiar with Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutation), including the dreaded chaturanga dandasana (low plank). These movements are so fundamental to these styles of yoga that they are not often broken down and taught outright. In this workshop, students will develop a functional understanding of individual postures and the flowing links between them, including: Alignment and anatomy of individual postures, with special attention to chaturanga dandasana. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced transitional movements, including jumping. How to build strength and awareness to progress in transitional movements. Movements and poses that help prepare the body for full postures and advanced transitions. How to access the postures safely without straining wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck, and lower back. Ways to modify sun salutation movements and postures for safety and ease. We will strip Sun Salutations and down to the core, examine the movements piece by piece, then rebuild and reintegrate them into practice, layer by layer. Sun Salutation variations, including origin and history, will be presented as well. The workshop will leave you with a safer approach and a stronger foundation of these crucial vinyasa movements.

Yin Yoga with Jessi Alexander

Yin Yoga allows us to work the “yin” tissues or the deeper tissues of our joints, ligaments, fascia and bones, whereas Hatha Yoga, for example, works the muscular half or the “yang” tissues. Yin Yoga is not restorative yoga, but it is designed to help you sit longer and more comfo rtably by stretching the connective tissues around the joints. It involves variations of seated and supine poses typically held for three to five minutes. Yin is a needed complement to the more muscular styles of yoga. A good balance of Yin and Yang is beneficial. This class is suitable for all levels.

About Jessie:

Jessi is a loyal, heartful, happy soul. She is extremely focused on proper alignment, safety and personal comfort and growth. She strongly believes that all bodies can practice yoga and wants to help you get there at your pace. Her love and compassion shines through each time she teaches. Jessi opened Your Yoga Louisville to offer our community all of the wonderful things traditional yoga has brought to her life.
